*REPENT AND BE BAPTISED PT7*

*Then Peter said to them, "Repent, and let every one of you be baptized in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins; and you shall receive the gift of the Holy Spirit*.
*Acts 2:38*.

Having talked much about baptism let us take a look at the origin and the foundation of baptism. Baptism as an act actually predates the birth of Jesus Christ. It was first used as a means of repentance from sin by John the Baptist when he preached repentance and baptized people at the River Jordan.

However, the act of using water as a means of spiritual purification began with Jews far back into their history. In the old testament book of Leviticus we see detailed instructions on the art of priestly absolution. This was a precursor of the baptism of John the Baptist.

Bro Peter will later tell us that baptism is for the remission of sin and Jesus having no sin accepted baptism reasons being that while having no sin whatsoever, Jesus submitted himself to John the Baptist's baptism as means to sanctify the baptismal water for future believers.

A defining difference between John's baptism and the baptism of the apostle given by Jesus is that Jesus elevated the act of baptism to a sacrament and not just a sacrament but a compulsory sacrament of initiation without which one cannot become his follower, cannot enter the kingdom of God and cannot be free from original sin. In other words, baptism as instructed by Jesus is a precondition for salvation.

Furthermore, while John's baptism had no specific formula for its validation, Jesus expressly gave a well defined formula which is the only way baptism can be said to be valid. The formula is, "In the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Ghost".
*Go therefore and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit*. *Matthew 28:19*.

I pray for you and with you that you will never lack help whenever you need it by the power in the name of Jesus.

Good day beloved and may the glory of the Lord cover you always. Peace be with you.
